Neven Sussman teamed with Brad Harris for a 35-yard touchdown pass and two-point conversion as Albany rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Buffalo 22-16 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
The scoring pass to a wide-open Harris capped an 81-yard drive to put the Great Danes ahead for good. Harris twisted to catch the conversion pass, and Albany iced the win when Kyle Sakowski intercepted a Buffalo pass with 2:38 left in the game.
Sussman completed 14 of 21 passes for 113 yards with a pair of TDs. Sophomore Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, providing the bulk of Albany's 125 yards on the ground.
Tyree Jackson brought Buffalo to within 14-13 with a 17-yard TD pass just before halftime, and the Bulls grabbed a 16-14 lead on a 45-yard field goal in the third quarter. Jackson fumbled at the goal line with 4:01 remaining.
