Lamb, Appalachian State beat Georgia Southern 34-10

Taylor Lamb passed for 199 yards and ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns to help Appalachian State beat Georgia Southern 34-10 on Thursday night.
Jalin Moore added 126 yards rushing and Marcus Cox ran for 115 yards for the Mountaineers (6-2, 4-0 Sun Belt). Each had a touchdown run in the final quarter and Appalachian State scored the final 34 points after falling behind early.
Lamb put the Mountaineers on the board with a 14-yard run in the middle of the second quarter. Michael Rubino added field goals on each side of halftime and Lamb made it 20-10 with a 30-yard keeper late in the third.
Younghoe Koo's 32-yard field goal opened the scoring for the Eagles (4-4, 3-2) and Ukeme Eligwe returned a fumble 90 yards to make 10-0 late in the first quarter.
Georgia Southern never got moving on offense, though, and was outgained by the Mountaineers 498-159.

Ellison leads Ga. Southern to 22-19 win over New Mexico St.

 Kevin Ellison threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns as Georgia Southern beat New Mexico State 22-19 on Saturday night to snap a three-game losing streak.
Younghoe Koo, who made three field goals, has a school-record 13 straight for the season.
Georgia Southern picked up its first win on the final leg of a four-game road swing.
Trailing 12-9, Ellison hit Matt Breida from the 9 on the first play in the fourth to give the Eagles (4-3, 3-1 Sun Belt Conference) a 15-12 lead. On their next possession Ellison, who had 117 rushing and 101 passing yards, threw a screen pass to Wesley Fields who raced to the end zone from the 42 to go ahead 22-12.
New Mexico State's (2-5, 1-3) Tyler Rogers, who threw for 250 yards, found Johnathan Boone in the end zone on a 32-yard pass play for the final score with 1:19 remaining. Georgia Southern recovered the ensuing onside kick.

Georgia Tech rolls to 34-24 win over Georgia Southern

Justin Thomas was the difference in the matchup of spread-option offenses, running for two touchdowns and passing for another, and Georgia Tech beat Georgia Southern 35-24 on Saturday to end a three-game losing streak.
Georgia Tech (4-3) enjoyed a dominant opening quarter and put the game away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns.Dedrick Mills had a 20-yard scoring run, his second of the game, with less than four minutes remaining.
Georgia Southern (3-3) has lost three straight - all on the road. The Eagles rank sixth in the nation in rushing but managed only 167 yards - more than 100 below their average - on 50 carries.
Georgia Tech started strong with a barrage of big plays in the first quarter and gained 437 yards. Thomas had a season-high 172 yards passing and 78 rushing.
Thomas said the key will be to use the game for momentum in the second half of the season. Georgia Tech has an off week before resuming its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule against Duke.
"It was an up-and-down first half of the season," Thomas said. "We regrouped this week and we have to come back in the second half and start from there."
A 58-yard scoring run by Thomas and a 65-yard scoring pass from Thomas to Clinton Lynch gave the Yellow Jackets a 14-0 lead. A 50-yard run by Marcus Marshall set up Mills' 6-yard touchdown run that made it 21-7.
"We did not come out of the gate the way we needed to, being down 14-0 before we could really blink," said Georgia Southern coach Tyson Summers.
Georgia Tech didn't score again until Thomas ran in from the 4 after faking a pitch early in the fourth quarter.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN: The Eagles lead the Sun Belt in total defense but couldn't stop Georgia Tech in only the second matchup between the state rivals. L.A. Ramsby's 1-yard scoring run in the first quarter gave the Eagles their only touchdown until Kevin Ellison's 3-yard scoring pass to B.J. Johnson III with 1:03 remaining.Younghoe Koo kicked a 44-yard field goal in the second quarter.
GEORGIA TECH: The Yellow Jackets had the strong showing on both sides of the ball they needed to regain momentum after last week's last-second loss at Pittsburgh. Thomas showed strong leadership as he didn't turn the ball over. Corey Griffin delivered a big fourth-down sack to end the Eagles' first drive of the second half.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN: The Eagles return to their Sun Belt Conference schedule when they visit New Mexico State on Saturday and try to extend their two-game winning streak in the series.
GEORGIA TECH: The Yellow Jackets are off next week and will play another home game against Duke on Oct. 29. Duke beat Georgia Tech 34-20 in 2015 for their second straight win in the ACC Coastal Division rivalry.

Arkansas State overcomes 5 turnovers, beats Georgia Southern

 Omar Bayless caught an 8-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone with 9 seconds left and Arkansas State overcame five turnovers to beat Georgia Southern 27-26 on Wednesday night.
Down 26-20 with 2:41 remaining, Arkansas State (1-4, 1-0 Sun Belt) went on a 13-play, 70-yard drive - kept alive byJustice Hansen's 18-yard scramble on fourth-and 16. Hansen also completed a 29-yard back-shoulder pass to Kendall Sanders with 18 seconds left and connected with Bayless on a fade route for the winner.
Arkansas State, which turned it over seven times in its last two games, fumbled on its first three drives. Georgia Southern (3-2, 2-1) recovered two of them and Joshua Moon intercepted a tipped pass later in the first quarter. In the fourth, Cam Echols-Luper muffed a long punt and Hansen threw his second interception.
Hansen was 16 of 27 for 182 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Arkansas State.
Georgia Southern scored on its first two possession of the second half to take a 23-10 lead. Younghoe Kookicked a 24-yard field goal, and Myles Campbell caught a short pass, broke a tackle and outran the defense for a 63-yard touchdown. But the Eagles were held to just three fourth-quarter points.
It was the first meeting between the teams since Georgia Southern's victory in the 1986 NCAA Division I-AA national championship game.

Terrell leads W. Michigan past Georgia Southern, 49-31

Zach Terrell threw four touchdown passes and Western Michigan won its fourth straight to open the season by beating Georgia Southern 49-31 in a non-conference showdown Saturday night.
Terrell threw three TD passes in the second quarter, including a 37-yard strike to Michael Henry and a 35-yard pass to Corey Davis, and Darius Phillips returned a Georgia Southern kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to give the Broncos (4-0) a 35-17 advantage at intermission.
Terrell completed 18 of 27 pass attempts for 270 yards and Jamauri Bogangained 104 yards on 26 carries and scored a touchdown on the ground. Henry finished with eight receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Favian Upshaw was 4 of 6 for 103 yards passing and two touchdowns to lead Georgia Southern (3-1), but had one pass picked off. Kevin Ellison was 5 of 9 for 65 yards and a touchdown and ran for a team-high 46 yards.

Sack, blocked FG seal tight 23-21 win for Georgia Southern

Chris DeLaRosa and RJ Murray teamed for stout defense in the final 90 seconds with a sack and a blocked field goal as Georgia Southern held on for a 23-21 victory over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday night.
After falling behind by two scores, Georgia Southern (3-0) reeled off 23 straight points to go up 23-14 early in the fourth quarter. But the Warhawks (1-2) rallied to within 23-21 on a 10-yard scoring pass from Garrett Smithto Marcus Green with 10:12 left to play. Louisiana-Monroe was driving for a potential go-ahead score when DeLaRosa dropped Smith for a loss of 10 yards and Murray made a leaping, one-handed block of the ensuing 41-yard field goal attempt with 1:16 to play.
Georgia Southern gained 345 yards rushing and held the ball for 41:37. Younghoe Koo kicked three field goals.
Smith's first TD pass broke Georgia Southern's streak of 155 minutes without allowing a TD, dating back to 2015.

Georgia Southern rallies past South Alabama 24-9

Favian Upshaw ran for 108 of Georgia Southern's 304 yards rushing and the Eagles beat South Alabama 24-9 on Saturday night, a week after the Jaguars upset Mississippi State.
Younghoe Koo got the Eagles (2-0, 1-0 Sun Belt) even at 3-3 before L.A. Ramsby went in from 1 yard out - the 10th straight game he has scored - to take the lead for good late in the first quarter. Upshaw threw for 127 yards on just six completions.
The Jaguars (1-1, 0-1), who rallied to beat the Bulldogs 21-20 in their opener, only managed three field goals by Gavin Patterson against Georgia Southern. Dallas Davis was 21 of 42 for 279 yards passing with an interception.
The Eagles added a 5-yard run by Wesley Fields and a 27-yarder by Kevin Ellison to complete their scoring.
Georgia Southern, which beat Savannah State in its opener, has rushed for 724 yards in its first two games.

Upshaw leads Georgia Southern rout of Savannah State 54-0

Favian Upshaw accounted threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as Georgia Southern collected 605 total yards in dominating Savannah State 54-0 on Saturday in the opener for both teams.
Georgia Southern (1-0) last topped 600 yards of total offense in 2014 amassing 660 at Georgia State.
The Eagles announced before the game the suspension of seven players for violations of team policies. All will return for next week's game at South Alabama.
Upshaw scored twice in less than a two-minute span on runs of 2 and 33 yards respectively. Wesley Fields' 1-yard run before the end of the first quarter made it 21-0. The Eagles' Demarcus Godfrey had 14 carries for 124 yards and Fields had 13 carries for 87 yards.
The Tigers (0-1) managed just 114 yards total offense and were 1-for-9 on third down conversions. Georgia Southern held a time of possession advantage by 38:06 to 21:54.
